from bulimia, self-destruction and overtraining to empowered, balanced + integrated.
My story is a long one, but I wouldn't be where I am today without it and for that I'm forever grateful.
I've been an athlete my entire life (starting martial arts at 7 years old) and it was always a dream of mine to become a high-level athlete.
With misinformation all over the internet and the societal pressure to diet or lose weight, I eventually developed an eating disorder in high school that led me to the lowest point in my health. I suffered from vertigo, hair loss, poor recovery, migraines, amennorhea (loss of period), reflux, osteopenia, and depression. Additionally, I was addicted to working out - spending 4+ hours in the gym constantly beating the hell out of my body because it was never "perfect enough".
In short - I was lost, disconnected, filled with self-hate, and drowning in cycles of self-sabotaging behaviors.
During this time, ironically, I was also passionate about nutrition and helping others and knew (deep in my soul) that I was being called to help people achieve optimal wellness.
The only problem was that I had no idea how I could do that when I was currently struggling with my relationship to food, exercise and my body.
Integrity being a value of mine, I knew that I truly wouldn't be able to help anyone unless I healed myself first.
Thus, was the beginning of my personal development journey.
Through YEARS of personal development, self-discovery, healing trauma, and nutrition education (through my pursuit of becoming a dietitian), that I discovered what it meant to have ultimate performance.
And it didn't take me long to figure out that most people are doing it all wrong.
Most people who hear I am a dietitian, automatically think that nutrition is my sole focus. Although it’s a huge focus and passion of mine, the truth is that there are more pieces to the puzzle, when it comes to performance optimization.
Optimal performance, to me, is a culmination of having 6 pillars in balance: nutrition, training, mindset, self-care, recovery, and sleep.
I believe that who we are is the sum of all of these respective parts, not just one of them.
In my experience, I've learned that life is about balance.
When anything is out of alignment to that balance, there will be signs that manifest alerting you that things are out of whack and that you need to change focus to get back into that balance.
The pillars of performance are the formula to integrating balance of mind, body, and soul - which in turn allows you to step into the fully actualized, expressed, and empowered version of yourself.
It's in THIS space where you thrive as an athlete.
As a high level competitor, speaker, and mentor to hundreds of female athletes, it's important to me to spread this message to as many athletes as possible, so that they can truly become the best versions of themselves and ultimately live their best lives.
